Sodding and Seeding Installation

We offer quality  lawn establishment or renovations that can be done with two different methods, sodding and seeding.  Sodding is the terminology used when sod, a section of grass covered surface is held together with matted roots is installed on a soil surface. Sowing a lawn is a technique done when appropriate grass seeds are applied to a soil surface, also known as seeding. Both methods can prove to be successful and each have pros and cons that should be taken into consideration when choosing which method is best for you.

Sodding or Seeding?

At Tropical Touch landscaping our friendly staff will help guide you to better understand which method is best suited to fit your needs. We provided the highest quality product from some of the largest local sod farms in Ontario. Our sod suppliers cut the sod fresh daily to help assure us that the end result is always the greatest.  Our selections of grass seed comes directly from the suppliers and are some of the best mixtures available.

Sodding 

PROS

• Sod provides instant gratification.
• Sod can be laid any time the soil is workable.
• Sod can suppress the germination of annual weeds.

CONS

• Sod is considerably more costly then seed.
• A sodded lawn will need to be aerated within a few years.
• Sodding is a heavy and tiring task, machinery such as a skid steer could be required.

Seeding

PROS

• Seed mixtures can be tailored to meet the sites criteria.
• Seed is an inexpensive compared to sod.
• Seeding can be done using relatively inexpensive equipment.

CONS

• Seeding should be done in the Spring or Fall, Summer seeding is unsuccessful.
• Establishing can take 4-6 weeks.
• Soil needs to be kept moist through the entire germination process.
• Annual and Perennial weeds have a higher success rate to germinate.
